I Discovered a Mythical Creature!

Image
... Stevia that doesn't taste bad! Okay, I didn't discover it. Averie did. I won her NuNaturals Stevia giveaway a couple weeks ago, and my prize came in the mail this weekend! I received liquid vanilla-flavored stevia, stevia powder packets, and baking blend that you can use like sugar. Verrry potent liquid drops. They also sent me a bunch of recipes using stevia. And some articles. So far, I've tried the drops and the packets. I performed the ultimate taste test by trying them in my coffee and was elated to find that they taste great! I've tried several brands of stevia and they always tasted off, to the point that I couldn't enjoy my coffee. And that's the entire reason I drink it. But I guess brand really does matter when it comes to stevia, because both the liquid and the powder packets tasted great in my coffee. Yay! I spent most of my weekend fervently working on my book . I can't even tell you how many hours I spent on it - maybe thirty? I got SO much...

Proof That I Am Insane; Mushroom Dal

Image
I booked another student film! I'm so excited! The only downside is that it's filming on Halloween so I'll have to scale back my partying and change my costume. I was going to be Machete but now I can't do the requisite fake tattoos so now I don't know what to be. I've had a very busy week. I had an audition on Monday, two on Tuesday, and one yesterday. I have another tomorrow and one Saturday but I didn't have any today so I did a mailing to casting directors, ran some errands, and finally did some cooking! I bought this new type of coffee the other day because it was cheap. It's good, basic dark coffee. But I've been trying to figure out whether you get more for your money if you buy whole bean or pre-ground coffee. Does anyone know?? And now... the proof that I am insane. My favorite garlic and onion seasoning was on sale for a DOLLAR (it's usually more than $2.50) so I bought out the shelf. And I went to Target today to buy some gum an...

Urth Caffe and Goal Setting

Image
I went to Urth Caffe on Melrose for coffee today. It's a cute, busy cafe with lots of coffee and tea plus breakfast and lunch. I just wanted coffee so I didn't look very closely at the menu but it seems vegan-friendly. They have almond, soy, and rice milk for coffee but there's a 50 cent surcharge (LAME!). There's also a wide arrange of add-ins, including agave. I got a large coffee with hot almond milk and it came in a mug with a nice layer of foam. It was delicious and it didn't even need any sweetener. This afternoon I went to The Actors' Network, first to see Darci Monet, a vocal coach, and then for a talk on goal setting. The session with the vocal coach was fun because there were very few of us and she had each of us get up in front and do some vocal exercises. In the second session we talked about setting goals for five years, three years, and one year from now, as well as breaking up those years into three-month segments. The facilitator told us ...

Gum and Jujubes

Image
Wow, I've had a busy and fantastic weekend! First up, I got an e-mail today from the director of the film I auditioned for on Thursday and said took over three and a half hours out of my day. She said she had decided to cast someone else but loved my performance and would like to stay in touch for future projects. I thought that was really nice because that never happens. In the audition process in LA, you go in, audition, leave, and you will probably never hear anything back. You could get a call that evening or weeks later letting you know you got a callback or booked the job, but you have no idea. And if you didn't get it, you just won't hear anything at all. So it was very nice of her to write me. On Thursday night I totally ran out of gum and Crystal Light, which was a catastrophe, so I immediately headed to Ralphs to rectify that situation. I may have gone overboard a tad: Don't worry, that will last me a while. I'm not one of those pack-a-day chewers,...

Whoa Zucchini Pasta! And coffee.

Image
So I finally made zucchini pasta and now I get what the big deal is. Last night I had three zucchinis in my house and now I have none -- I need to rectify that soon! I also had lots of salad last night. This picture only shows one bowl, but I had two or three more bowls after that. It has a baby romaine mix, cherry tomatoes, spicy sprouted lentils, Rawmesan, sauerkraut, and baby artichokes. Another thing I've been thinking about is coffee. Gena over at Choosing Raw just posted about her decision to keep drinking coffee because she likes it so much. I have given it up for the last several weeks, which did help me realize that I'm not addicted to it. But I have realized one thing I really like about coffee is the time that I take to drink it. I sit down, slow down, and focus on it. I have a problem slowing down sometimes and coffee is a great way for me to do that. Plus, I really don't think it's that bad for you. So I had a cup today and it was great. :) In the...
