Gas Station Saves Your Life/Eternal Soul? And other news

Image
Whatuuup everyone! I saw this at a gas station the other day and thought it was hilarious. I just love the idea that anyone would see a sign at a gas station and be like, " OMG! You're right! I gotta go change my life!" And look, this truck has a DRAGON coming out of it!! I worked a lot (interned, actually, but I hate that word because it makes me think of internal medicine, which is obviously a good thing, but not accurate to what I do) over the Thanksgiving holiday because I didn't go out of town. One day I bought this at Gelsons: It's a MOJO bar! MOJO! It was pretty good. The chocolate almond coconut or whatever flavor is the best. It tastes like seven layer bars, which I haven't eaten since eighth grade when I went to my aunt's house and ate seventeen of them in a day (or something like that) and officially disgusted all of my family members. But they are so tasty. I made some killer smoothies. A Clementine Julius -- a bunch of clementines, some almond...

Travel Day

Image
I'm going to Kansas today! Today ended up being a rest day from exercise just because I didn't have time to work out before my flight. But it probably isn't a bad thing to get a little rest! I've been trying to eat my food so it won't go bad while I'm gone. For breakfast I had the rest of my roasted brussels sprouts and squash. I also had a little almond milk to finish the container and the last serving of Chicken-less strips, which Faith asked me about -- they taste like the kind of chicken strips you would get in a fajita, and I think they're fairly accurate, but not creepily so. I like them. I also bought these beets, which I put on my salad last night - Kind of an impulse purchase and now I'm afraid I can't finish them before I leave. =( Oops. They're just beets, by the way -- the cheese in the picture is a "serving suggestion." Here's what I packed for my flight: Aaaand I'm off! Next post should feature some cute baby pic...

Stylish Blogger Award; Dr. Praeger's Veggie Burgers

Image
Thank you to Madeleine for nominating me for a stylish blogger award! I'm psyched! Apparently this means I need to: Make a post and link back to the person who awarded me - Madeleine . Share seven things about myself. Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers. Contact these bloggers and tell them they've won. Whew. That's a lot of facts and bloggers! Seven facts about me that you may not already know... 1) I was born in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany, and German was my first language. 2) My first acting role was my star turn at age 4 as Thumbelina in Hans Christian Andersen's Fairytales at the Army Community Theater in Fort Knox, Kentucky. I got lots of fan mail from elementary school students forced to see the show! 3) I am obsessed with languages, and besides German and English I have studied or know many languages to a certain degree (some better than others): Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, French, Italian, Arabic, Swahili, ASL, and Russian. 4) I don't really ever...

TJ's Red Pepper Spread, Arugula Salad with Roasted Beets, Sauerkraut, and Mustard

I'm going to make this post quick because it's late. But I already know what I'm going to post about tomorrow! I always feel a little relieved when I know I have something to post about the next day... yes, I am a planner. Today was super busy, as expected. I had Power Group at The Actors Network -- that's my once-monthly meeting where I get together with other actors and we talk about what we accomplished in our careers over the past month and what we'll do next month. Then I went to my callback, which went great. It was very high-energy and fun, and I was playing a star-struck 15-year-old. I stopped in at Trader Joe's to get some edamame to snack on and got hit on by a guy wearing red glitter eyeliner. He gave me his number and drew me a picture. Not my first time getting hit on at the grocery store, but definitely the first time by a man wearing eyeliner... not to mention of the red and glittery variety. Very interesting. I drove from Hollywood to T...

85 Degree Weather in December!

Image
It has been 75-85 degrees out for the past several days. AMAZING. I've been spending as much time outside as possible. On Friday I went for a hike in Griffith park with one of my friends. Today I spent more than five hours outside, reading and studying Italian and Arabic. This was my day - Look how much my plants have grown? There's a mystery plant that started growing a few weeks ago. It's on the right: There's little berry-type things - Does anyone know what that plant is? I have no idea! My other plants are growing a lot, too! I just hate that the sun goes down at 4:45! I recently bought a new kind of almond milk at Trader Joe's - and it's refrigerated and $3! By the way, in most places you can recycle the refrigerated boxes if you tear out the plastic spout. The nutrition facts are very similar to Almond Breeze but the flavor is slightly different. It tasted less sweet to me and more vanilla-y. Putting it in my coffee reminded me of Silk vanilla so...

I had an audition downtown on Friday. I snapped a picture on the drive home: The audition went well - thanks to the people who wished me good luck! I felt really good about it and got positive feedback. I'm supposed to find out on Monday or Tuesday. Friday night I watched "Winter's Bone," a critically acclaimed indie about a 17-year-old girl in the Ozarks hunting down her meth-cooking dad who jumped bail after putting their house up for bond. Jennifer Lawrence is getting potential Best Actress buzz and it's definitely a good movie with a very authentic feel and a surprising twist at the end. Saturday morning I had a workshop with Sara Isaacson, the casting director for Fringe. I love that show! I watched a couple more movies last night - East of Eden and Sin Nombre. East of Eden is a classic, loosely adapted from John Steinbeck's novel and featuring James Dean's arguably best performance. He really was great to watch - you feel like you can see stra...

Salsa + Hummus and Sun-Dried Tomato Chips!

Image
I had a crazy craving for hummus mixed with salsa yesterday, so I got some provisions and ate this weird/delicious snack. That's hummus and salsa but instead of chips I used sun-dried tomatoes!! YUM!! It sounds crazy but really, it's good. I'd love to eat this again but make some zucchini chips in the dehydrator. If you made the hummus and salsa yourself, this could easily be a raw snack. That eggplant hummus has about half the calories and fat of most hummus because it doesn't have any oil. And that salsa is freaking delicious and together they are da bomb. This morning I brewed up some of this new coffee I bought at TJ's the other day: Except first I had to really struggle to get it open because the pop top came off and I had to stab it with a knife and get really violent. This coffee was good but I'm not sure that I like it any more than the other kinds I buy. I don't even know what makes it espresso. For being such a coffee monster I am surprising...

New Shoes, Odds and Ends

My Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies were a huge hit! One of my friends actually said they were the best cookies she had ever eaten. Not kidding. My weekend was fun! I had a callback on Saturday morning - I'm one of two girls still in the running, so we'll see. Then I partied hardy for about 12 hours. And then I felt like crap on Sunday! That's when you repeat, "You're only young once" over and over. But I did end up with these sweet-ass 2 AM Sharpie tats. That's a tiger fighting a dragon one on arm and a pegleg pirate on the other. I had an audition on Sunday and then napped a lot and today I had another audition and then I went to Target. I haven't cooked any meals lately so I'm just going to share random things I've bought! First up, TJ's was selling entire branches of brussels sprouts. Sooo I had to buy one. Coool! Oh yeah, and look how well my plants are doing (they're a month old now )! They're growing gr...
