Indianlife Dal Mix

Thank you guys so much for your nice comments on my post yesterday!! I really appreciate your support. I had another good day today, full of exercise. I went back to InYoga, which I reviewed a couple months ago , for the Community Flow class. It was a pretty fast-paced one-hour class, instead of the usual 90 minute classes. I liked that because my main problem with yoga is getting bored. The teacher, Tara, really mixed it up and kept me interested and challenged. She also played good music instead of the regular yoga hippie crap. So I liked it! It was a full-body workout and she also pushed to make it more cardio by having us do all these silent hops in different poses. This afternoon I taped an audition for a feature film (it was requested) and did a bunch of acting administrative business. I also set up a visit to Kansas in a few weeks -- I'm going to see my dad, stepmom, and baby brother! Yay! I actually need to see my endocrinologist, which is why I'm going, but the family ...

InYoga Center Review: Lo Flow Class

Image
Today I went to my first yoga class at InYoga. I bought ten classes for $30 through a Groupon a couple of weeks ago and now that I've activated them I have four months to go to nine more classes. I think I can accomplish that. It's located on Laurel Canyon Blvd. on the southeast side of the intersection with Magnolia (5-10 minutes from my house!). The studio itself is really cute, and the people who work there are really friendly and unintimidating. They sell some yoga supplies, healthy snacks, cute eco-friendly clothes, and extras like incense in the front room. The clothes are actually really cute. I would have taken more detailed pictures but I didn't want anyone to tell me to stop. Heehee. I went for the Lo Flow class from 10:30-12. I didn't really know what to expect or how difficult it would be. I have done yoga videos for a decade (and recorded every episode of Namaste Yoga on FitTV - it's awesome!!!) but never taken a class anywhere besides the YMCA... an...

Salad and Yoga

Image
I had a huuuge salad for dinner last night. It had lots of mixed greens (spinach, arugula, kale, chard, Italian mix, winter mix, and spring mix), cherry tomatoes, cultured veggies, pumpkin seeds, Rawmesan, goji berries, and my new raw sweet onion dressing. That's the bowl from my salad spinner -- I ate all of that. Plate #1 of my salad, post-adornment. For dessert I had a banana mashed up with cinnamon and some shredded coconut and cacao nibs. It's a really satisfying dessert that is good to eat when you're still a little hungry and need something to help satisfy that urge to eat more. This morning I woke up and did some yoga and went on a walk/skip outside -- skipping forwards, backwards, and sideways is just fun and silly but it's also a good workout. I was thinking about the difference between yoga and all other types of exercise. When you do different yoga poses, the teacher makes comments like "This move is good for the liver" and "This is for y...

Santa Monica Farmers' Market and Co-Op, Kundalini Yoga

Image
Yesterday I went to the Santa Monica Farmers' Market, as is quickly becoming a weekly ritual. I bought 2 avocados, 3 cherimoyas, a bag of kiwis, lots of mixed greens, and fresh peas. Then I went for an hour-long walk along the beach. So nice! After the beach I went to the Santa Monica Co-Op, which I hadn't been to before. I was pretty devoted to our co-op in Bloomington (Bloomingfoods) and this one was like Bloomingfoods but bigger and with a lot more vegan stuff. I was so excited and went a little purchase-crazy. They have a fantastic bulk section as well as a bulk spices section, which I hadn't seen anywhere in LA yet. I don't want to buy a new bottle every time I run out of spices (and I run out of cinnamon a lot because I loooove it). I bought some St. John's Wort tea, some Zukay raw dressing, some garlic sauerkraut, some cultured veggies (it's like sauerkraut of broccoli, carrots, etc.), and yacon powder. I ran out of my beloved maca and decided t...
