Premiere Party

Image
I went to a fun party tonight! But first I spent a few hours today cooking. I made some soup and a recipe that I'll share tomorrow. The soup was just my basic carrots, celery, and yellow split pea stew. ' Then tonight I went to a premiere party for a webseries. It was fun and full of actors - including a series regular from a TV show I watch! I don't know who he knew and why he was there but nobody seemed to notice him but me. I dressed up. It's unseasonably cold in LA so I wore tights. I got a lot of compliments on the dress! Terrible flash-free picture of the party. And AWESOME picture from the photo booth! Check out the picture second from the top -- it's like an Axe commercial. Photo booths are so fun! Tomorrow I have a meeting with a potential agent. Wish me luck!

Taste Adventure Soups

My love for soup is well-documented. But you may have been wondering just how I have managed to eat so much corn chowder and lentil soup lately. Well today the secret is revealed. I've written about my favorite bulk soups before, and last time I was at Nature Mart I checked the brand. I looked it up on the internet to see if I could find a store closer to me, and discovered instead that I could save money by buying in bulk from the Taste Adventure website. So I bought ten pounds of each! It cost about $32 for 10 pounds. That's a lot of soup. Here is the nutrition information: Sweet Corn Chowder Precooked yellow peas, sweet corn, carrots, onions, sea salt, black pepper, parsley (2/3 cup dry mix) = 1 serving 190 calories 1 g. fat 470 mg sodium 35 g carbs 5 g fiber 7 g sugar 13 g protein 25% vitamin A 4% vitamin C 4% Calcium 10% Iron Curry Lentil Soup Pre-cooked lentils, sea salt, curry spices and herbs, onions, garlic (2/3 cup dry mix) 210 calories 1 g fat 620 mg sodium 36 g carb...

Neon Green is Sexy; Yellow Split Pea Soup with Broccoli

I had such an action-packed weekend that I have three blog posts ready to go! I'll be featuring more cute outfits, some awesome recipes, and... more. Today we'll talk about SOUP (I post a lot about soup...) and I'll show you another bar-hopping outfit. I went out three nights in a row this weekend! And because it's me, that means lots of dancing and no drinking. On Friday, after sleeping in, wiped out from my Voyeur visit on Thursday night, I had sketch comedy rehearsal and that night I went to a bar called Rush Street in Culver City with some actor friends. It's a sports bar, so a totally different feel from Voyeur. First I tried a green shirt with some jeggings and heels. But I wasn't feeling it so I tried on a neon green dress I've had since fifth grade. Can you tell how short this thing is? So short, it's more like a shirt now. So I paired it with some leggings and Chucks. Can I just be self-indulgent for a second and say I love my hair? This is Fri...

Deconstructed Moong Bean Soup

Image
I am really proud of my recipe today, even though it is incredibly simple. I am sure other people have done this before, but I feel like I invented it. So I'll just continue to pretend I did. I finished off my big bag of moong beans. I started out by making some moong bean soup with dry beans, frozen corn and artichoke hearts, kale stalks, carrots, and garam masala, kind of based off my Indian-Spiced Yellow Split Pea Soup. Then after I ate it all, I wished I could make more but I was out of most of the ingredients. So I created this super-awesome recipe that I shall call "deconstructed soup." Deconstructed Moong Bean Soup Soup: Dried moong beans Water Seasoned salt Optional -- garlic, curry powder, garam masala Raw spinach Raw broccoli and cauliflower Nutritional yeast Cook moong beans until soft, about an hour. Cook longer than you think you should -- they'll get cooked, but then add more water and keep cooking so they really break down and get creamy. Make a bed of ...

Easy Food for a Busy Weekend

Image
I had a busy weekend! On Friday I went to my acting class, Nature Mart Bulk Bin, and then the audition where I played an Egyptian girl. It went really well and it turns out the director had seen another short film I did and that's why she called me in. Which also means she knew what I looked like already, so I didn't worry my headshot had somehow mislead her that I look more Arab than I really do! Because I was out all day I brought some snacks with me. That's the red pepper eggplant dip I bought from Trader Joe's last week. At Nature Mart I refilled my Dr. Bronner's soap and I bought a couple dry soup mixes, mostly out of curiosity. On Saturday I had a fairly important audition. I wore a skirt to celebrate the warm weather: Tan shirt with little birds on it I've had forever, $6 Plato's Closet skirt, my sparkly Converse, and tights Mom gave me for my birthday. I try not to think about my auditions too much afterward, because I have no control over what ...

Yams with Peanut Flour

What a great response to the Stylish Blogger Award! If you haven't looked at yesterday's post yet, check it out and discover some new bloggers. =) I had my first free acting class today at the Actors Workout Studio, and I had to show up for an interview at 9:45 and then stayed for class from 10:30-2. The class is based on the Meisner Technique and we did Repetition exercises where you look at the other actor, make a physical observation about them, and the two people repeat it over and over until eventually they talk about how they feel about the other actor. It sounds boring but some interesting things can happen -- TWO people cried. I was not one of them. Today's food was pretty boring - edamame and salad with roasted beets and another McDougall soup, this time split pea: It doesn't look like much but it's good. Yesterday I had a sweet potato that I roasted at 425 for about 45 minutes (cut off the ends, stab a few times with a knife, and put a pan below to ca...

McDougall Soup with TVP; DIY Mentality, Self-Reliance

I'm bummed I didn't have time to do Fashion Friday this week =( especially seeing as I spent hours this week looking at vegan motorcycle boots online. But I have a good reason for being otherwise engaged on Friday - I had an audition and I know it went well because I have a callback tomorrow! Yay! I had a great weekend and went to two casting director workshops yesterday. One CD called my performance "a breath of fresh air." I've also been riding my exercise bike quite a bit. I usually work out right when I get up, and this past week I've been doing Pilates. But I keep getting a burst of energy at 10 or 11 at night and feeling the need to ride the bike! I'm weird. I was checking out 24 Hour Fitness because sometimes I'd really like to go to the gym in the middle of the night, but I haven't decided if it's worth the cost to me or not when I can get a good workout at home. I bought some McDougall's soups at Ralphs the other day beca...

Bloomingfoods and Vitamix Soup

Happy New Year! All my travel yesterday went fine and I got home in time to partay. I was supposed to meet some friends at a bar but when I got there I realized I had the WRONG ID!! I accidentally brought my student ID instead of my driver's license, because they're both tan and I guess I didn't look close. But my friend found me a way in. :O Shhh... don't alert the authorities. But I'm legal, I swear! The night was fun and I got some good dancing done. I spent today being productive - doing Pilates, unpacking, cleaning, blog reading, grocery shopping. I roasted up some veggies, made fruit salad, and have been watching season 4 of The Tudors all afternoon. It's such a good show but I do get really stressed out watching it sometimes! I figured I'd take this time to highlight a couple recipes and meals I enjoyed over winter break that I hadn't gotten a chance to share yet. Today I'm writing about a delicious Vitamix soup and tomorrow I'm g...
