New Tumblr and Xmas Holiday

Image
Hey everybody! I hope your winter holidays were super holiday and not as much winter. I left LA on the 21st and I'm not getting back until the 7th so this has been a pretty long trip for me. I've got some news! I started a Tumblr blog: erikaheidewald.tumblr.com . I realized that I needed more of an outlet for the things I'm most interested in now, which don't necessarily fit on this blog. Comedy is such a huge passion of mine and I've loved really getting into Twitter over the last few months. So my interests and what I want to blog about have changed. That doesn't mean that I WON'T write on here anymore -- but obviously, I've been posting on here less frequently. So if you're interested, check out the new Tumblr blog and if you're not, I'll still be back here when I want to write about something health-related. And just a little warning -- the Tumblr is definitely my comedy blog. So don't take it seriously. =) I've also gotten into I...

Funeral and Flying

Image
We had to wake up at 5:30 on Saturday (3:30 Pacific time!!) to fly in my dad's plane up to Aurora, Illinois for my great-aunt's funeral. She was a nun, so it was super Catholic. Funerals are serious. But honestly, I never met my great-aunt and knew almost nothing about her, so I mostly just felt bad for my grandpa losing his sister. My brother flew us back -- he got his pilot's license last year (at age 19!). I'm so proud of him. My dad got his pilot's license when he was in the Army so my brother has always wanted to get his, too. The flight was beautiful, and my brother did a great job! Today we mostly just hung out on the porch or inside, escaping the over-100 degree temperatures. We watched baby brother play in his pool and watched Wall Street 2. And I got to work out. I haven't recorded my workouts in a few weeks because I got so busy. I've still been working out, just not quite as much. I've made sure to lift weights and at least squeeze in 20-30 m...

Buff Up Week 4 Recap

Image
Four weeks ago I said I wanted to get buff . Then I charted my progress after one week , two weeks , and three weeks . Now it's been four weeks! This week was a challenge because I was in Kansas and because I pulled a muscle. I've been really careful with it -- resting, icing, and using a heating pad. It's feeling better so I know I'm on the right track, but it did put a damper on my workouts. I didn't get back to doing a little cardio until Saturday, and before that it had been since Tuesday. But I did keep up my upper body and abs workouts, using heavier weights because that's what my dad has. I did pretty well with eating, though I've definitely been eating more fruit and less protein than I usually do and I don't think that's best for me. Back to food and exercise diaries - Exercise: Weights - triceps, upper back, lower back, abs, shoulders 20 minutes elliptical Food Diary: Breakfast: Fruit salad Lunch: Broccoli with Amy's spanish red bean an...

OCD Baby!

Image
I'm having a lovely time with my family. My baby brother is so freaking cute and since I was here over Christmas he has developed some rather adorable OCD tendencies. He's going through a "helpful" phase and loves to clean. He's "vacuuming" the garage. He meticulously set up his Elmos next to him, and adjusted them so they were perfect. Hugs! He is so adorable. I do have some bad news. =( I pulled a muscle! The muscle right where my left hamstring connects to my butt really hurts. So I'm sticking to upper-body weights for a few days, icing, and taking aspirin. Hopefully it will feel better in a few days. But it's very hard to rest your butt, seeing as I use it every time I walk, stand up, sit down, bend over... I've been eating a lot of the same things because I didn't want to buy a bunch of stuff that wouldn't get eaten while I'm here. Cereal with blueberries, apple slices, and banana for breakfast: Broccoli with soup for lunch a...

Spring Break Day 3: Santa Monica and Malibu

Image
We went to Santa Monica today, because it was supposed to be our warmest weather. We got there around 1 to some weird, intense fog. I've never seen fog like that -- we couldn't see the ocean from the beach! We walked down the beach to Muscle Beach, where exhibitionists practice strange forms of exercise. My brother did some flips on the rings: His girlfriend (a gymnast) showed off her mad upper body strength. She climbed all the way up the rope without using her legs . And that rope is really high up! I can do neither of these activities. Way to make me feel out of shape. We had a picnic of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that I made. We explored the foggy beach... But then the sun came out! We drove up the PCH to Malibu for no reason, just because it's beautiful. It was in the seventies and we just blasted the radio with the windows down and enjoyed how beautiful California is. We took a random Canyon road that went up and up until we found a really cool view over the ...

Christmas Brunch: Apple Cinnamon French Toast

Image
Wow, it's been almost a week since I posted! I didn't mean to disappear, but I've had every single moment of my time dominated by family - and I mean that in a good way, of course! Now I'm at my dad's house in Lawrence, Kansas and I'll be here until Friday. I have a lot to share with you but I'm still pressed for time so I'll just share our Christmas morning brunch right now. On Christmas morning my brother came over and we opened presents first thing! First up was stockings: My big present was some money towards my Screen Actors Guild union membership. Yay! We also played with my brother's puppy, Buster. And then we made and enjoyed brunch. Here I am, with the spread: French toast, fruit salad, and veggie breakfast sausages. You guys are going to love the french toast recipe, because it was delicious, easy, healthy, and perfect for special occasions! Apple Cinnamon French Toast One loaf of bread, sliced - we used wheat sourdough, but anything...

Gum and Jujubes

Image
Wow, I've had a busy and fantastic weekend! First up, I got an e-mail today from the director of the film I auditioned for on Thursday and said took over three and a half hours out of my day. She said she had decided to cast someone else but loved my performance and would like to stay in touch for future projects. I thought that was really nice because that never happens. In the audition process in LA, you go in, audition, leave, and you will probably never hear anything back. You could get a call that evening or weeks later letting you know you got a callback or booked the job, but you have no idea. And if you didn't get it, you just won't hear anything at all. So it was very nice of her to write me. On Thursday night I totally ran out of gum and Crystal Light, which was a catastrophe, so I immediately headed to Ralphs to rectify that situation. I may have gone overboard a tad: Don't worry, that will last me a while. I'm not one of those pack-a-day chewers,...
